About St. Philip’s
We have been sharing and preaching Christ in the world for over 114 years. The Episcopal Church of St. Philip The Evangelist is the first historically black episcopal parish in the diocese of Los Angeles, and the second historically black parish west of the Mississippi River. St. Philip’s opened its doors in November 1907 at the first of three locations, changing as the congregation
continued to grow, and settling at its current location where the cornerstone was set in 1928. In the early 1980’s we expanded our congregation by offering a Spanish language mass to provide the spiritual needs of an ever-changing community.
We are now One Congregation Speaking Two Languages.
